During the last weekend of July, Pickerington celebrates its heritage with the Violet Festival, named for Violet Township. Violet Township was the name selected back in the early 1800’s because of the abundance of wild violets growing in the area fields. The Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society is located in the Olde Carnegie Library and maintains the artifacts and memorabilia of the area.
Other favorites which include live music, performers, parades, games, rides, and fireworks are the Fourth of July celebration, Taste of Pickerington, Kidzfest, Haunted Village, Olde Village Holiday, and the Pickerington Youth Fishing Derby. The Summer Concert Series kicks off in June and runs through August with performances on Sunday evenings throughout the summer. The Pickerington Community Theater also delights with local comedies and dramas.
The Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 150 acres of park land in seven parks. Pickerington parks are attractively landscaped and include shelter houses, picnic facilities, a gazebo, and the historical Zeller-Smith Covered Bridge. Visitors to the Olde Pickerington Village can enjoy a variety of events throughout the year that include the Chocolate Hop and a summer Cruise-In.
